Sue was invited to Buckingham Palace as part of the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations this summer. Sue received the invitation for her many hours assisting the development and running of tennis at Haverfordwest and in West Wales. As you can see her invitation was well deserved.
Sue joined the club in 1985 and was recruited onto the committee the following year and served as Treasurer from 1989 until the present time. She organised club junior coaching and coached herself from 1990-2005 and ran the Pembrokeshire junior tournament from 2000-2013, when it was brought under the wing of the Pembrokeshire LTA and Alison took over.
Sue joined the PLTA in 1990 and has been referee of senior tournament since 2009 until the present time.
She played in the club’s ladies team until 2011 and joined Tennis Wales veterans committee in the 1990’s, and became it’s treasurer for at least 5 years. She played in South Wales county teams in her 50’s and early 60’s.
Sue represented Wales in the Quadrangular International veteran matches against teams from England, Scotland and Ireland on 5 occasions- twice in Cardiff, twice in Scotland and once in Ireland, playing against all countries on each occasion.
Well done Sue.

The 2016 Senior 4 Nations Championships were hosted by Wales on the May Bank Holiday weekend at the Wrexham Tennis Centre. Haverfordwest LTC were delighted to be represented by Sarah Keogh, where she competed against England, Scotland and Ireland. Sarah says “It was a complete privilege and an honour to pull on the red jersey of Wales, an occasion I will remember forever. The atmosphere amongst all the Welsh girls was formidable, with all the girls supporting one another throughout the weekend”. The tennis on view was of the highest quality, with England taking the overall top spot. This opportunity has only whetted Sarah’s appetite to spend more time on the practice courts honing her skills and developing her match play. Previously, Brian Hearne, Sue Jones and Jenny Scoble have all gained international honours at the same event. Sarah was delighted to follow in their auspicious footsteps.

A very big THANK YOU to all the committee, members, coaches, juniors, family, friends and sponsors who were actively involved in making the 24-hour charity tennis marathon a success. We are delighted Richard survived the ordeal, and looked as fresh as paint at club night last night. Whilst the weather was disappointing, those that turned up were treated to a sumptuous afternoon tea party all guzzled down with large jugs of Pimms! Thanks also to Haverfordwest Bowling Club who provided the bar facility and switched a bowls match to allow us have full use of the clubhouse. Watch out in the local press for the final amount raised for Shalom House, St. David’s. A note of caution; Richard is already plotting and planning for 2015!

Courts 3 and 4 are now equipped with floodlighting for Members use. Once you have paid your 2014 subscription fees you may request the four digit code for each of the court lights from Sue Jones, The Membership Secretary. These lights can only be used by Members on the courts outside of organised club activities and matches held on these courts. The lights can only be used up to 9pm and children must be accompanied by a supervising adult. The code must be entered when play is finished in order to deactivate the lights and turn them off after a five minute period.
This is an exciting time for the club, entering a new phase of play. The committee will be observing and reviewing how the lights are used and managed by Members and reserve the right to change how the lights can be used and/or withdraw this facility from individual members who may abuse the system.
Any Member found to be passing the code to another Member or person may have their access to the lighting facility withdrawn.

During 2013, we had courts 1 and 2 re-painted and courts 3 and 4 were re-surfaced and painted.  The new combination of colours is proving popular with all our members, young and old.  The lighting project on Courts 3 and 4 is due to be completed in the Spring of 2014.
